The American champion Optimistic of Being 'perfectly positioned' for the upcoming Winter Olympics

American skiing icon Lindsey Vonn has declared she will be "in a good place" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, following claiming a top-three finish for the fourth time in five World Cup races.

The veteran athlete, who achieved a milestone by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, finished third in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This was her 142nd career World Cup top-three result.

Strong Return in the French Alps

Returning to the French Alps resort for the first occasion in almost a decade, Vonn finished the course in a time of 1:20.60. She was 0.36 seconds behind victor Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking second place.

"I was slightly lacking enough direction on the first jump," the skier commented. "After that, I skied well. I'm happy with my skiing today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was not aggressive enough."

This result was her second top-three finish at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also taken third in the downhill on Saturday.

A Remarkable Comeback from Injury

Vonn stepped away from competition in early 2019 because of persistent injuries. However, she returned to racing in December 2024 following a partial knee replacement.

With 47 days remaining until the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, which are scheduled for 6-22 February, Vonn's performances are highly promising.

She has one gold and two bronze medals from previous Games and is firmly on track to compete for the United States at the next Olympics.

"In Cortina, I will be where I need to be," Vonn affirmed.

Aiming for Further Glory

Alongside her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also aiming to increase the four World Cup titles she has secured over a professional journey spanning two decades.

She currently holds a substantial lead at the top of the downhill World Cup rankings and is ranked fifth in the overall super-G standings.

This current World Cup circuit features a nine more events scheduled before the circuit finale in Kvitfjell, Norway on 21 March 2026.
