Suspected Bondi Beach Gunmen Acted Solo and Did Not Training in the Southeast Asian Nation, Authorities Say.

The pair of accused attackers who carried out the lethal shooting at a Hanukkah event on Bondi Beach, resulting in 15 lives, are believed to have operated independently, according to national authorities.

Police also confirmed that the 50-year-old Sajid Akram, and his son Naveed Akram journeyed to the Philippines on 1 November. Their itinerary included arriving in the main city Manila before connecting on the day of arrival to Davao City. The pair flew back to Sydney on 29 November.

No Evidence of Preparation During Stay

Authorities indicate the duo did not receive any type of terrorist instruction or "organizing" during their stay in the Philippines. Preliminary investigations from local authorities suggest they "rarely left" their hotel.

The shooting—labeled as Australia's deadliest mass shooting since 1996—has been officially designated a act of terrorism.

"We are actively analyzing the footage," she stated, explaining that preliminary assessments indicate that "the alleged offenders are suspected to have acted alone."

Australian Federal Police Chief Krissy Barrett informed reporters on Tuesday that security camera video showing the alleged gunmen's movements in the Philippines had been submitted to Australian authorities.

"There is little to no indication to support the idea these suspects were part of a broader network, or were directed by overseas entities to carry out an act of violence," Commissioner Barrett stated.

Yet, the pair were additionally not in the Philippines as tourists, the official clarified. She emphasized that, given that the investigation is still active, new evidence may emerge.

Ideology and Court Proceedings

In prior statements, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said it looks as though both alleged attackers were "influenced by the so-called Islamic State" ideology.

In the wake following the shooting, immigration authorities in the Philippines reported that the father had entered the country using an Indian passport, while his younger suspect used an Australian passport.

The duo had stated the metropolis of Davao as their intended endpoint. Their pre-arranged journey back to Australia was for Sydney.
