Larian Studios Reveal a New Divinity, Declaring it Their Largest RPG Yet

The anticipation around this year's gaming ceremony was significant, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a strange statue. The mystery has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is working on a completely new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.

Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This choice of words implies that the team might be building a faster-paced experience rather than another turn-based title. For now, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it sparked the recent resurgence of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, branching plots, and deep class systems—traits that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of specialized paths that are viable by choosing a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also famously flexible, letting players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be completed in diverse methods, sometimes in unexpected fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you remembered something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a clever way.

The Journey Continues

It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can anticipate a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
