Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Officers say they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then located multiple other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police report preliminary tests suggest the liquid was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; officials are not yet cognizant of any injuries in connection with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to unravel the case" and have asked to the public for details.
A high-ranking representative stated the attack made him without words and had to be resolved promptly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he stated on social media, referring to the killing of nine victims by a assailant aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
